2006 China International Calligraphy Conference opened yesterday in Xiaoshan, Hangzhou.
Chen Haosu, Chairman of the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Chang Keren, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Wang Jun, Deputy Director of the State Tourism Administration, and Liang Pingbo, Vice Chairman of Zhejiang Provincial CPPCC, delivered speeches in the opening ceremony. Duan Chenggui, Vice Chairman of China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Tian Zimao, Deputy Secretary of C.P.C. of Chinese Writers Association, also attended the meeting.
It is reported that the conference, on the basis of the theme ¡°The Beauty of Calligraphy ¨C The Combination of Culture and Spirit¡±, will last 3 days. The conference embraces a series of activities as follows: Exhibition of Works by Famous Calligraphers, the exchange activity of ¡°Brilliant Calligraphic Work on the 100-meter Scroll¡± to be attended by one hundred domestic and overseas calligraphers, International Calligraphy Forum, etc. 100 plus calligraphers from China, Korea, Malaysia, etc. attended this grand meeting.
